UO recognized as a top producer of US Fulbright scholars
COMPUTER SCIENCE, ENGLISH, HISTORY - Six UO faculty members were selected for Fulbright Scholars awards, helping the University of Oregon earn recognition as a top Fulbright producing institution from the U.S. Department of State the 2022-23 academic year. Four of the six Fulbright Scholar recipients have accepted placements for the 2022-23 academic year.

The data science of predicting earthquakes is getting smarter
COMPUTER SCIENCE - Earthquakes are often a back-of-the-mind threat for residents of the Pacific Northwest, but nevertheless a growing concern as the years go on. A better understanding of earthquake processes, including nucleation and shaking, and its associated risks to communities, would provide residents with more peace of mind.
The new School of Computer and Data Sciences will be open in fall 2023 to students throughout the UO, with the goal of serving 2,000 undergraduate majors and students in existing and new undergraduate and graduate programs.

COMPUTER SCIENCE, DATA SCIENCE - The University of Oregon will open a new School of Computer and Data Sciences in fall 2023, combining the university’s growing strength in computer science with its five-year investment in data science.
The University of Oregon's Monitoring and Assessment Program (MAP), which was established in spring 2020, can process up to 4,000 COVID-19 tests per week.

Summer camp sparks Oregon high schoolers’ interest in cybersecurity
COMPUTER SCIENCE, CYBERSECURITY — A special summer camp through the School of Computer and Data Science brought students from all backgrounds to get a glimpse into the world of computer science and cybersecurity. Students participated in collaborative activities, met guest speakers from big-name organizations and attended sessions covering topics like how to apply to college for computer science.
Teachers from across Oregon came to the University of Oregon for a week to learn critical curriculum they can use to teach cybersecurity to students.
Workshop prepares cybersecurity teachers across Oregon
COMPUTER SCIENCE, CYBERSECURITY — For five days, 11 computer science teachers from high schools across Oregon gathered at the UO campus in Eugene to learn about the RING curriculum for teaching cybersecurity. This curriculum was designed by the National Security Agency to enable teachers to offer a cybersecurity class at their high schools, a class that is not taught in most Oregon high schools.

COMPUTER SCIENCE - In his time as a computer science major in the School of Computer and Data Science, Fedi Aniefuna used a creative mindset to go beyond a standard curriculum. He capitalized on opportunities and always made sure to create paths for others to do the same. As an alum, he's still looking for ways for students to open more doors for themselves.
