Computer Science Alum Builds on Experiential Learning to Teach, Create, Succeed

COMPUTER SCIENCE - In his time as a computer science major in the School of Computer and Data Science, Fedi Aniefuna used a creative mindset to go beyond a standard curriculum. He capitalized on opportunities and always made sure to create paths for others to do the same. As an alum, he's still looking for ways for students to open more doors for themselves.

Students partner with industry in computer science capstone class

In a capstone course piloted by the School of Computer and Data Sciences, fifteen computer science majors worked on real-world projects under the mentorship of industry professionals from some of the Pacific Northwest’s most prestigious tech workplaces, including Intel, Pipeworks Studios and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

AMD workshop draws leading experts in high-performance computing

Researchers and tech professionals from around the world gathered on campus for a hands-on programming workshop with Advanced Micro Devices, an industry leader in high-performance computing. Research teams from universities such as MIT, Stanford, and more traveled to the School of Computer and Data Sciences for the three-day hackathon, the first of its kind in North America.

Interest in computer and data science at the University of Oregon continues to build, and the School of Computer and Data Sciences is expanding to accommodate the growing number of students who want to enter the field. This year, the school added seven new faculty members—five in computer science and two in data science—to help meet the demand for courses in key subject areas.

Student-created app helps travelers stay connected and save money

COMPUTER SCIENCE - In a course where innovation meets real-world challenges, three computer science students took their classroom project beyond the grade book and put it into the hands of global travelers. Over the summer, computer science majors Adrian Heider, Raj Gill and Manu Shukla developed and launched a fully functional app: Constella, an iOS application aimed at reducing the cost of international phone plans.
